Baltimore City Community College hopes to encourage more high school students to consider college by giving away a years scholarship to 41 high schools within the city.

The Scholarships, funded by the BCCC Foundation Inc, will cover tuition, books, and other school fees. In order to qualify for the $3400 scholarship award an applicant must have a 2.5 grade point average, show financial need, and write an essay on the values of college education.

In conjunction with the city school system, BCCC will also award 19 more scholarships to dropouts as part of the alternative options program. This program enables dropouts to earn a high school diploma at BCCC. The Alternative Options Program has enrolled 60 students between the age groups of 16-19, out of which 12 are expected to graduate this July.

BCCC is Baltimores only community college and it enrolls nearly 20,000 credit and non-credit students. The college expects to graduate nearly 4000 students this year.
