I had an Olympic weight set, bench, ive had multigyms and with every new piece of equipment came a new promise that this was going to be it, this piece of equipment was finally going to put the muscle on me that i deserved god damn it! But of course that never happened, I put a little bit on but not enough for all the effort i put into it! And all the reading up of all the different ways of training that was out there, high volume workouts, high intensity workouts, blitzing, bombing, drop sets, supersets, giantsets and everything in-between. Have you tried and tried to gain weight and get big but it never seemed to happen?
That's exactly what i was trying to do when i was younger, I used to buy all the supplements that were popular at the time, the weight gain powders, protien powders, vitamins, amino acid tabs, in fact anything that promised the earth but never delivered!
I would have to include creatine with that as well, I know, I know! Creatine has all the scientific studies behind it to prove it actually does something.
Don't get me wrong, Im not for one minute saying that creatine never did anything for me; in fact it did a lot of good!
It made me feel really pumped up constantly, which was great! Out of all the supplements creatine is something i will always return to it just makes you feel good!

But it doesnt make you BIG!
It makes you feel like your big but one look in the mirror will make you realize that your not as big as you feel!
So why keep taking the stuff then? Simply because it makes you stronger and it does build muscle it just doesnt work as quick as we would like!
And thats because we were not built to be massive, yes we can be bigger than we are now but never massive like you see in the bodybuilding mags, (if you have the genetics to be that big chances are you won't be reading this right now!) so that answers that question.

So what do we do?

We come back down to reality, because believe me you will eventually, but if you leave it to long for it to sink in the chances are that when it does you'll just give in and never touch a weight again, so it's best to realize now rather than later.
Don't take this the wrong way Im not trying to put a downer and be all negative about it, in fact just the opposite is true!
When you do eventually realize and then accept it a whole new world of training opens up for you!

There comes a stage after all the years of slugging my guts out that you have to step back and take a look at it objectively and say "Is this REALLY worth the effort? If your gaining well and steadily then yes it would be worth it, but if your not and your nowhere near where you want to be then i'd say no way is it worth it!

The cold hard truth is that at some stage you have to GET A GRIP and grow up and stop wasting all those years just to put on a few stone, yeah your a bit bigger, but because it took so long for you to put on a measly few stone no one will notice it because it wasnt a sudden surge of weight!
You know you put it on because you can see it on the scales, but ask the people around you and if your lucky they might say your not as skinny as you used to be but they will never say your big! Because your not!

So does all this mean that you should stop training all together, I mean whats the point right!
Well the point is to look better, and by that i mean anyone can look better but not anyone can be a Mr. Olympia! If after a year of slugging your guts out you still don't even look muscular or brawny or bulky, then the reality is that you never will, even if you took steroids you'll never be big, yeah sure you'll look nice and bloated and convince yourself that your a beast! But the reality is you just look like a bit of a prat!

Lets get REAL and train to improve our health and our everyday strength and if you put on a little bit of muscle then thats a bonus!
When you wake up to this reality it's actually like a big weight has been lifted of your shoulders, youll be less stressed and won't be to obsessed over your training and your diet and you never know that might be just the thing that actually builds you up faster than ever before!
Because like i said its not the be all and end all, it's a nice surprise when you do put on a little bit of muscle, plus with sensible training it will stay there for a lot longer as well!

I have actually got rid of all my weights and bench and all i use now is a punch bag, an ab wheel, some resistance bands and my body and thats it and i couldnt be more happy!

When you sit down and look back and then look in the mirror and decide if it was all worth it, only you know that.
Decide and then take positive action to free yourself you will feel a whole lot better about yourself, trust me!
