The Kofi Annan Tree was planted in November 14, 2003 when the HDI Vanguard Corps for Peace and Development climbed together with the United Nations Volunteers headed by Beatriz Fernandez, the former UNV-Philippines Program Officer. The climb was joined by members of the Mount Apo Foundation, Inc., headed by Ermelo Libre, its
Executive Director; Fred Pino of the Office of the Governor, North Cotabato and representatives of the Philippine National Oil Corporation. Above Photo, shows the planting of the Tinikaran Tree, endemic in the area after the name of the H.E. Kofi Annan.
In a communiqu© received by the HDI Chairperson from Kevin Kennedy of the Office of the U.N. Secretary General, it has again cited the efforts done by the organization in saving mountains and in particular, the planting of the Kofi Annan Tree.
